Cineville Europe

Cineville is an unlimited subscription model that allows members to go to affiliated independent cinemas as often as they like. Because we want to promote sustainable collaboration within the European cinema industry, we have expanded beyond the Netherlands. Our dream for the future? Crossing European borders with a single cinema subscription.

Cineville in Europe

First launched in The Netherlands, Cineville has been sharing its love for independent cinema since 2009. It now also operates in Belgium (2022), Austria (2023, under the name nonstop), Germany (2024) and Sweden (2025) through a multi-tiered structure of collaboration and customised services. Cineville’s over 135.000 European members contribute to approximately 2.8 million visits annually, in almost 200 affiliated cinemas.

Created by and for independent cinemas, Cineville is locally driven. In each participating country, the cinemas collectively own and govern their Cineville. From Brussels to Berlin, local efforts are supported bottom-up by Cineville’s shared knowledge and resource infrastructure, whereas joint marketing campaigns support visibility and brand identity. Our adventurous spirit and love for cinema is kept front and center. As the 2025 international launch campaign put it: Cineville offers ‘Infinite cinema visits for the infinitely curious.’

The CINERGY Project

Building on Cineville’s successful expansion, the EU-funded CINERGY project aims to unleash the full potential of European independent cinemas by introducing the Cineville model – improved with new data and marketing tools – to current partners as well as new European markets. The goal is to support the cinemas in their efforts to connect with a new, young and wider audience.

The CINERGY project addresses the need for collaboration, new business models and data-based promotion in the sector, but also seeks to facilitate cooperation among the entire value chain, while providing an innovative business model for audience development and retention. The long-term impact is a stronger European arthouse ecosystem and better visibility for independent and European films.

The CINERGY project is funded by the Creative Europe MEDIA Programme.
