A group of choir girls go on a three-day excursion with their singing teacher, far from their strictly religious homes. While away, a new world opens up to them, and they can see only one thing: sex. On an autumnal afternoon at the Leiden International Film Festival last year, we caught the feature debut of Slovenian director Urška Djukić and instantly found ourselves longing for a sultry summer. With its undertone of longing, *Little Trouble Girls* takes us on a three-day Catholic choir retreat, where youthful desire flies in every direction. Within the complex dynamics of teenage friendships, these young women explore the holy trinity of prohibition, desire, and faith. We already tipped this film as one to look forward to for 2026, and here it is: sealed with a kiss from Cineville.

Medical student Hana is struggling with her body image and binge eating. When she runs into an old childhood friend who’s lost an almost eery amount of weight, she discovers the world of diet pills. *Saccharine* is a gory body horror film about desire, control, and the price of perfection.

Finally recovered from the body-horror vibes of *The Substance*? Good, because director Natalie Erika James is ready to feed you *Saccharine*. Her film premiered at the recent Berlinale, where audiences left the cinema crying 'gross, fucked up, weird' and... 'hot' – [according to this review on Letterboxd](https://letterboxd.com/veradrew22/film/saccharine-2026/). Naturally, we couldn't pass up such a wonderfully freaky horror film during the Cineville Preview Days.

Straight from the 2026 Cannes underground to the Cineville Preview Days: *Jim Queen* is that wonderfully raunchy animated film you didn't know you needed. Creators Nicolas Athané and Marco Nguyen made a gritty trip packed with tank tops, nipple piercings, and horny techno. The search for a cure for Heterosis leads epic duo Jim and Lucien through notorious bear bars, dark GHB raves, and smelly cruising mazes. Get ready for a parade of penises and bum cheeks – *Jim Queen* is shamelessly filthy film, bursting with colour, and packed with queer energy.

In *Kontinental '25*, director Radu Jude follows a bailiff from Cluj, Transylvania, who struggles with guilt following a tragic eviction. Through sharp satire and social critique, the film explores themes such as the housing shortage, personal responsibility, and the aftermath of post-socialism.

Romanian director Radu Jude (*Do Not Expect Too Much from the End of the World*) is the king of social-critical cinema, and with *Kontinental ‘25* he delivers another wonderfully rebellious satire about everything wrong with modern society. The film premiered at Berlinale, and we briefly feared it might skip Dutch independent cinemas entirely. Luckily, the programmers at Eye came to the rescue: thanks to their Previously Unreleased programme, the best 'orphan films' of last year are screened across the country. We’re showing this absurd gem early during the Cineville Preview Days.

***Sehnsucht in Sangerhausen* at the Cineville Preview Days**
This festival favourite from the Locarno Film Festival is another one that’s not to be missed during the Cineville Preview Days. In director Julian Radlmaier’s latest, the residents of Sangerhausen – a small town in Central Germany – are haunted by the ghosts of their history, from the early twentieth century to the present day. Radlmaier’s dialogue and visuals reminded us of early Wes Anderson and Aki Kaurismäki’s dry wit.
