A new district is rising in Cambodia. Posters of the dreams meant to be realised flutter across unfinished skeletal structures. Alienation and loneliness take centre stage in the meditative gem Promised Spaces. We see two parallel realities: the people building luxury apartments while living in improvised camps on-site, and those moving into the apartments only to find the neighbourhood virtually deserted. Inequality has rarely been portrayed so poignantly and beautifully.

Promised Spaces premiered this year in the ACID selection at the Cannes Film Festival. The film marks the directorial debut of Ivan Marković, who previously worked as a cinematographer. This background is clearly reflected in the film's fantastic photography, where every frame could be framed. A stunning film about lost dreams.
