Mariinka at the Cineville Preview Days
In 2016, Belgian filmmaker Pieter-Jan de Peu made The Land of the Enlightened, about child soldiers in Afghanistan. This time he portrays Ukraine, travelling to the front line to closely follow survivors in the town of Mariinka. The film premiered at IDFA last year, where it was showered with rave reviews. Mariinka does not look away from the war, bringing the humanity of those left behind into sharp focus.
