Four short films about taking up space and looking for connection: on the street, in friendships, in politics. These films show just how versatile queer lives are, and how everyday themes can look very different when you view them through the eyes of a queer person.

_Flores_ | Jorge Jácome
In a scenario where a natural disaster strikes, the entire population of the Azores is forced to leave due to an uncontrolled plague of hydrangeas. Two young soldiers take us through the sad stories of those forced to depart and the deep-seated desire to resist by staying behind on the islands.

_Marlon Brando_ | Vincent Tilanus
Cas and Naomi, two high schoolers who are both out of the closet, like nothing better than spending their days together. As 'brother and sister' from other parents, they experience a sense of safety and love they can't find anywhere else. But when their future plans threaten to pull them apart, their relationship is put at risk...

_Queen Size_ | Avril Besson
This morning Marina has an appointment with Charlie to sell her a mattress. Tonight she will cancel her flight to Réunion. But they don't know that yet.

_Bleifrei95_ | Emma Hütt & Tina Muffler
Three friends in their mid-twenties reunite in the place of their youth, where they have to reshape their friendship amidst hanging out at petrol stations, motorways, and the world's oldest lesbian bar.

Four short films about taking up space and seeking connection: on the street, in friendships, in politics.

Go Short: Queer Shorts

The Verre Binding Film Council is proud to present a special selection of films for _Go Short Arnhem_. With five short films from the Netherlands, Congo, Switzerland, and Belgium, the film council has put together a diverse program, full of stories about hope, love, and the longing for a home.

_My Homeland_ Tabarak Abbas
Baghdad, early 1990s: In a world where humans have made way for cyborgs, a young couple and their newborn baby try to flee their country, where war has just broken out. This animated film tells a true story and immerses viewers in a futuristic world.

_Voice Messages from My Mom_ Elinice Adeyemi
Inspired by Chantal Akerman’s “News From Home,” this intimate short film follows a Nigerian student in the Netherlands who receives a series of voice messages from her mother via WhatsApp. Through these messages, a tender yet tense portrait of love, sacrifice, and distance unfolds.

_Zombies_ Baloji Tshiani
A journey between hope and dystopia in a hallucinatory Kinshasa: _Zombie_ takes us from the culture of the _kapsalon_ to a futuristic club scene, from the urban parade to the glory of a dictator on the campaign trail, and on to a modern Western. And it challenges the almost carnal relationship we have with our phones—extensions of the hand that grant us the ability to be digitally omnipresent…

_Thank you for your patience!_ Simon van der Zande
From a fixed vantage point, we witness a tense bus ride in Brussels when Samuel—a Congolese immigrant—boards to voice his dissatisfaction with Europe.

_Bes_ Ayla Çekin Satijn
Asli—a young, Turkish, lesbian woman—returns to the village where she was born to attend her childhood friend’s henna party. She’s afraid she won’t be accepted, but when she sees her old friends again, she realizes that she, too, harbors prejudices.

Five short films from the Netherlands, DR Congo, Switzerland, and Belgium about hope, love, and the longing for a home.
